P.O. Ackley's work with "Improved" cartridge designs has become his legacy. People who do not know anything about Ackley often recognize the term Ackley Improved. He was ingenious in the methods he used, so that shooters could safely fire factory ammo of the parent caliber in their improved chamber. If you follow the process that Ackley set up, reloading dies are commonly available and relatively inexpensive. Gunsmiths should understand the standardized Ackley gauges so that clients get the correct results.
